New Construction and Trees

New construction is largely responsible for contributing to the poor health and death of future trees. In order to give a tree its best chance for survival, during the building process, it is imperative to have a large area or barrier surrounding the tree and its root system to protect it from construction, large amounts of dirt, and other heavy equipment. Think about the following.

ENVIRONMENTALLY SPEAKING:

ENVIRONMENTALLY SPEAKING:

  • Trees produce oxygen that we breath: A mature leafy tree produces as much oxygen in a season as 10 people inhale in a year
  • Trees make effective sound barriers: Trees muffle urban noise almost as effectively as stonewalls
  • To produce its food, a tree absorbs and locks away carbon dioxide, a global warming suspect. An urban forest is a carbon storage area that can lock up as much carbon as it produces
  • Trees clean the air by intercepting airborne particles, reducing heat, and absorbing such pollutants as carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide
  • Trees fight soil erosion, conserve rainwater, and reduce water runoff and sediment deposit after storms

Trees add value and help to beautify your home. You have spent much money and countless hours in planning and preparation. In order to make the most of your investment, why not take the time to evaluate and help save the trees you already have.
